History of the FCE

Introduced in the early 1980s, the Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) was developed to address the financial squeeze in the workers compensation system due to long-term lost-time injuries. Without objective information, determining Return to Work (RTW) status was extremely difficult. Essentially, the FCE objectified RTW determination.
