Attorney Benefits & Referrals

Benefits

An FCE offers numerous benefits for physicians, employers, physical therapists, attorneys, and insurers. Attorneys refer an FCE as the disability case approaches settlement. Attorneys can use the FCE to show that the client has chronic functional limitations and cannot return to work. The FCE can also address attorneys’ specific questions on the client’s daily work and personal activities. FCE services are available for both defense and plaintiff attorneys.

Disability testing typically takes two consecutive days – three to four hours on the first day and one to two hours on the second day. Angaran RE-Habilitation can test sitting, walking, waist-to-floor and waist-to-crown lifting, carrying, push-pull, elevated work, forward bending, standing work, crouching, kneeling, stair climbing, ladder use, grip, hand coordination, and self-report instruments.

Referrals

Physicians, case workers, vocational specialists, physical therapists, attorneys, insurers, and employers can all refer the client to an FCE. In Hawaii, physical therapists are permitted to evaluate clients without a physician referral.
